At The Last Supper
At the Last Supper, Jesus was gathered together,
with His disciples to celebrate the feast of the Passover.
The breaking of the bread was symbolic of the incarnation
of God in earthly flesh and Christ's broken body which was
about to be given for us that our sins might be forgiven.
The cup was symbolic of Christ's blood which was about
to be shed and the violent death He was about to suffer
as the divine provision for the washing away of our sins.

Our observance of the Lord's Supper or communion
was clearly a commandment of the Savior Himself when He said "Do this in remembrance of me." (Luke 22:19)It is a constant reminder for Christians that Jesus made atonement for us. And we are instructed to do this until His return.
